Mammut Togir Slide Harness

01/21/2012

Within the Mammut brand, you can find a very adjustable harness, backed up with the strength required to handle any crag; The Mammut Togir Slide harness. Wheather you are climbing in the hot summer days at The City of Rocks, or ice climbing on chilly days at Jump Creek, the fully adjustable waist and leg loops give you the freedom to add or take away clothing layers as necessary. Four rectangle shaped gear loops give you plenty of space to hold the right hardware and more attachments for your ice climbing gear. For an extra dash of safety, the two-part nylon webbing on the belay loop reveals a colored warning indicater, clearly displaying wear and tear. This safety feature allows for the climber to make smart safety decisions, giving him piece of mind and the comfort that comes with knowing he is safe on the wall. Available in 4 sizes, $99.

Chaco Z2

Chaco Z2s are great in the river, easy to clean, and ideal on long hikes. Sometimes, I even jog in them. Chacos are not your average sandal. Endorsed by the American Podiatric Medical Association, Chaco sandals offer plenty of support, as well as unique adjust-ability. The Chaco Z2 sandal consists of a foot bed and webbing that weaves from toe to instep. The strap allows a custom fit for virtually any foot. The Vibram Unaweep sole is durable and allows amazing grip on all kinds of terrain. One defining feature of the Z2 model, the big toe strap, gives the sandal a more secure hold on your foot. All in all, Chacos are the best sandal I have ever owned.

Core Concept Old Faithful

I've owned the Core Concept Old Faithful midlayer for three seasons now, and it's still going strong. Made of Polartec Power dry, this shirt wicks moisture away in order to keep you warm and dry. A great long sleeve for anything from mountain biking, to running in the colder seasons. Oh yeah, it's also a product made in the USA, by a Boise based company.
How's that for supporting local?

Vibram Five Fingers

Vibram, an outsole manufacturer, has taken a complete turn about approach by designing their shoes to mimic your foot. By making them as flexible as possible, and building them with five toes, count'em, 5! Vibram has created FIVE FINGER SHOES. For anyone who has been looking for a barefoot shoe experience, eureka!

As an owner of three pairs of Vibram Five Fingers, they are my everyday go to shoe. While during the winter season they can be a bit chilly to wear outside without socks, all other seasons of the year they are fine just by themselves. The leather Treks are my favorite. They have been able to tackle any day hike trail I`ve thrown at it. Running in the foothills is one of the most satisfying activities to do in my Treks. Take caution, and ease into running in Five Fingers in order to strengthen the feet and adjacent muscles. Once the body has adjusted, running will never have been so rewarding.

If you are curious about, or have an interest in these crazy looking shoes, stop by the shop with any questions you may have. Let us help you make an informed decision on which pair is best for you. And why buy just one? They are so much fun!

Arc'teryx Beta AR

For my Staff pick for this week, I had to go with the Beta AR from Arc'teryx. The newly redesigned, lightweight, packable, waterproof GORE-TEX jacket, hip length, with a helmet compatible Drop Hood is just what you need for all around protection this winter.

Weighing in at only 15 oz, this jacket will keep you dry in the harshest of conditions. Wear this piece with confidence; The bombproof GORE-TEX PRO SHELL fabric will hold up to the worst of brushing trees on the slopes, to dragging against rocks at the crags. I would even go as far as to say, that this jacket is the minimalist's dream. The three words that best describe this piece are... Lightweight, Packable, and Durable.
